De Ala is a self-taught mixed media artist and creator of Ocelote Press. He was born and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico. He is a self-taught mixed media artist and specializes in printmaking and painting. His work has been showcased throughout the U.S. and international exhibits, including in Latin America and Europe.
De Ala images are inspired by Mexican folk art and dives deep into Mexico’s history. He weaves in pre-colonial spirituality and harmony, while also reclaiming a legacy for his ancestors in the present day through his work. Cuauhtli believes that creating from this space connects him to new dimensions and times that he represents in his wood carvings and paintings.
Based in Oakland, California, De Ala can often be found passing out free art at public demonstrations or working at his studio, Ocelote Press, where he hosts printmaking workshops regularly.
